The Mountain Summit
In this day and hour, the Body of Christ is feeling the upward draw to come near to the throne of God. For years now it has been about, "Oh God, rend the Heavens and come down!" But now, the word of the Lord to the Church is, "Come up into the Mountain of the Lord's presence...and be there." It's in the presence of the Lord that radical transformation occurs—body, soul, and spirit—and we gain a fresh perspective of being seated in heavenly places with Christ. We need transformation in the earth! However, this will only happen by first having our perspectives radically changed as we encounter the presence of the Lord on the Mountain.
In generations past, there have been men and women who've crossed the boundaries of acceptable Christianity into the realm of experiential communion with the living Christ. They tasted of the good Word and the power of the Kingdom age (see Hebrews 6:5), and raised the bar for what a Spirit-filled son could experience on this side of eternity. The Glory that the few of them touched as they pressed forward in desperation is now placed within the reach of a generation. The mysteries, miracles, signs and wonders that were available to some are now available to all.
So now, the upward call is for all to come into the Mountain of the Lord's presence to behold His beauty and be transformed by His Glory. God wanted the whole nation of Israel to come into His presence, but He only permitted a few:
"GOD SAID to Moses, 'Come up to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu (Aaron's sons), and seventy of Israel's elders, and worship at a distance. Moses alone shall come near the Lord; the others shall not come near, and neither shall the people come up with him.'
"Moses came and told the people all that the Lord had said and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, 'All that the Lord has spoken we will do.'
"Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. He rose up early in the morning and built an altar at the foot of the mountain and set up twelve pillars representing Israel's twelve tribes. And he sent young Israelite men, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the Lord...
"...Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up (the mountainside). And they saw the God of Israel (that is, a convincing manifestation of His presence), and under His feet it was like pavement of bright sapphire stone, like the very heavens in clearness. And upon the nobles of the Israelites He laid not His hand (to conceal Himself from them, to rebuke their daring, or to harm them); but they saw (the manifestation of the presence of) God, and ate and drank. And the Lord said to Moses, 'Come up to Me into the mountain...and be there, and I will give you tables of stone, with the law and the commandments which I have written that you may teach them.'"—Exodus 24:1-5, 9-12 (emphasis added)
Notice it says that the Lord didn't lay His hand on them to conceal Himself from them, but they saw a manifestation of the presence of God and ate and drank! They had lunch with God on the side of the Mountain! But even after they fellowshipped with the Lord, God called Moses to come up higher into the Mountain of His presence...and be there.
Becoming the Friends of God
God is calling us into the Mountain of His presence for the purpose of friendship. When Moses encountered the Lord in Exodus 33:11, it says that God spoke with him face to face, like a man speaks to his friend. It's possible to know God intimately like Moses did, and speak to Him face to face. The choice is ours; how will we respond to the call of God to come higher? Shall we sit idle and turn a deaf ear to the Lord? Or rather, like Moses, shall we rise up and trek higher into the Mountain of the Lord and step into new realms of Glory?
"And the Lord said to Moses, 'Come up to Me into the mountain and be there, and I will give you tables of stone, with the law and the commandments which I have written that you may teach them.' So Moses rose up with Joshua his attendant; and Moses went up into the mountain of God. And he said to the elders, 'Tarry here for us until we come back to you; remember, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a cause, let him go to them.'
"Then Moses went up into the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain. The glory of the Lord rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day God called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. And the glory of the Lord appeared to the Israelites like devouring fire on the top of the mountain. Moses entered into the midst of the cloud and went up the mountain, and Moses was on the mountain forty days and nights."—Exodus 24:12-18
In this season, the friends of God will be given near-unlimited access to the Mountain of His presence. Not all will find it, though; only those who hunger desperately for encounters with the living God. You see, only Moses and Joshua went up the Mountain into the cloud while all of Israel watched from below. Notice it was on the seventh day the Lord called Moses out of the cloud and then higher to the summit. I'm sure the Israelites were awestruck as they witnessed the Glory of the Lord dance like fire on the top of the mountain and Moses walk into it!
For six days Moses was on the Mountain waiting on God; then, on the seventh day, God spoke to Moses from out of the cloud to come to the summit—to the highest realm of Glory. We are in the seventh day. We must respond to the invitation to be on the Mountain of the Lord to hear what He's speaking—then we will know how to live in the summit—the pinnacle of His presence.
"Six days after this (on the seventh day), Jesus took with Him Peter and James and John and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves. And He was transfigured before them and became resplendent with divine brightness. And His garments became glistening, intensely white, as no fuller (cloth dresser, launderer) on earth could bleach them. And Elijah appeared (there) to them, accompanied by Moses, and they were holding (a protracted) conversation with Jesus."—Mark 9:2-4, emphasis mine
After six days, God called Moses higher. After six days, Jesus took Peter, James, and John, His closest friends, up the mountain and was transfigured before them. They saw Jesus in His glory and majesty—even saw Moses and Elijah! Friends, we are in the seven thousandth year—the sixth day is gone and the seventh day is here!
The Lord is saying to the Church in this hour, "Come up to the Mountain with Me...and be there. I simply want for you to be with Me on the Mountain as a friend. You don't have to do anything or be anything for Me...just be there with Me."
It is here that the Lord will reveal all of His treasured secrets and cause us to ride upon the high places with Him. He has favor on those He chooses to have favor and He is looking for friends to pour out His favor on.
Jesus told His disciples in John 15:15 that they were no longer His servants, but His friends. Friends He could tell all of His secrets to and everything He heard from the Father. He also said in Mark 4:11, "To you has been entrusted the mystery of the Kingdom of God (that is, the secret counsels of God which are hidden from the ungodly); but for those outside (of our circle) everything becomes a parable..." We have been given the privilege to know and understand the mysteries of the Kingdom and the secret counsels of the eternal God. He wants to teach us His ways.
He Will Teach Us His Ways
"It shall come to pass in the latter days that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be (firmly) established as the highest of the mountains and shall be exalted above the hills, and all nations shall flow to it. And many people shall come and say, 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob, that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths.' For out of Zion shall go forth the law and instruction, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem."—Isaiah 2:2-3
The Mountain of the Lord is the highest mountain of all. There is no other mountain, government, or kingdom that compares to the Kingdom of our God in the earth. All of the nations will flow into it and they will encourage each other and say, "Come! Let us go up to the mountain of the Lord...that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths!"
Habakkuk 2:14 says, "But (the time is coming when) the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea."
The knowledge of the glory of the Lord will be seen and demonstrated in and through a glory generation of sons that know God and have been instructed in His ways. They will live on the Mountain of the Lord and reveal a supernatural God to the world as a supernatural people.
